Have fun and Happy Storytelling!
How will you use Twelve Little Tales to tell your stories?
We usually read the story and then a child will choose a card. I cut them out and put them in an envelope first
When my son was younger I did most of the storytelling but now that he's six I usually begin and he tells some of it too and it's become a very fluid experience.
I would start by reading the Starter Tale. In the July story that you have you could maybe talk about what the little girl's name might be and then begin to imagine who it is that she lives with. Is there someone other than her mother and father? Does she have any pets? Do the pets follow her around as she searches for the elusive creatures? What is her favorite thing about the jungle? Does she have friends who live nearby? You can create an entire world just by thinking of answers to those questions either together or just you when you are telling the story.
Then you can start choosing cards and go from there. Sometimes the cards simply start you somewhere so you can tell more of the story and sometimes the cards end mid-sentence and then you complete it.
I think the best way to involve the children in your storytelling is to talk about the details as you imagine them and your story will start to become more full right away. We always talk about what the characters had for breakfast and what they bring with them when they leave the house and what treasures they find on their adventures. There is so much room for using your imaginations and for coming up with fun and new things all the time. The most important thing to remember is to have fun!
