The story of Twelve Little Tales Hello! My name is Marna Widom. I am the mother to two children - one big (24), and one little(er) (10). I have been working with Waldorf education for more than a half of my 49 years. I have taught at a private Waldorf school and a charter school inspired by Waldorf education. I am from Colorado originally but spent much of my childhood in Alaska moving almost every year for the first 22 years of my life - many adventures! I LOVE to tell stories to the children, to work with fiber and to paint with both watercolor and acrylic.
Storytelling I started out not being able to think of a single thing when my oldest was little and would ask for a story. I didn't realize then that she would have loved whatever I had made up for her - and that so much of it was spending such quality time. So, for her childhood I continued to read many wonderful books and sending her to her a Waldorf school where her teachers would tell her wonderful stories - and I never knew what I was missing.
When I was teaching preschool a number of years later I would memorize stories to tell the children at story time and began to see and experience the magic of storytelling. Their attentive wonder, the look on their faces, the deep listening and engagement were all of a different nature than any other of my experiences with them. I started to feel the magic that happens when one is telling a story, when the images are created in the minds of each individual, when the feeling in the room is charged with the magic that is being made right then and there. Then, around the lunch table I began to tell a story about Boris the Cat and His Boy. This was out of necessity as the children simply wouldn't stop talking and eat ;) but they would listen! The stories were created each day out of the collective energy of the group and out of our experiences together.
This is why I started Twelve Little Tales. Because I know there are people like I once was, who are not yet confident in their storytelling or, for those who are, these tales are a fun way to gain inspiration each month.
Each month I write a starter Tale, 12 prompt cards and create postcards and stickers. All are adorned with art from my original watercolor paintings. This is what comes in your Twelve Little Tales package and is a wonderful way to start or to add to your storytelling - whether at home, in the classroom or wherever you may be. Thank you for adventuring with Twelve Little Tales!
