What is Twelve Little Tales?

First, it’s magic!
​When we create stories we are creating a kind of magic all its own. The look of wonder on a child’s face when being told a story made up just for them is simply priceless.
Twelve Little Tales is a story-starter and 12 prompt cards (plus postcards and stickers!) that will gently guide you on your storytelling journey each month.
Including enchanting stories and delightfully creative prompts adorned with original watercolor illustrations created just for the tales.

For ages 3-8 and 8-beyond, storytellers of any skill level use these prompts for story time, bedtime, in the classroom, and in homeschool for the older children's creative writing.

Start Storytelling with the May Tale

Did you know that storytelling - in just minutes - can add magic and a deeper togetherness to your day? Creating stories is a sort of magic. Sometimes it feels daunting but that’s why we offer these starters - just to help! Each month is different with new stories and new illustrations from original watercolor paintings.

​The May Tale brings us to a land with a beautiful castle where two children live. One day they meet a large bird who seems to have gone off course and needs his new friends to help him find his way home. Maypoles, dragons, a mermaid and little dogs also all make an appearance in your story starters this month. So much fun!
Twelve Little Tales gets you started by introducing the place we are visiting this month, some of the characters, a bit of storyline and then some beginnings of offshoots to help you create a full story throughout the month. Everyone does it a bit differently and sometimes it takes a bit to get the hang of it but it is a worthwhile endeavor and you will be happy you trusted yourself enough to try 💛

Storytelling can sometimes be difficult in the beginning.

When I first started I had wonderful intentions but couldn't think of a thing to say! I didn't have a lot of confidence nor could I form ideas that seemed "good enough". Now I know that anything that I made up would have delighted my child to no end. But, I know that others have the same experience that I did. This is part of the reason I created Twelve Little Tales, so that I could help others with story-starters and ideas each month. The content is simple, timeless and based in nature and seasonal wonder and leaves room for all of your ideas and creativity. 

The children will love your stories!

The starter Tale introduces the story for the month. Each month is a new story usually corresponding with the time of year and sometimes will include special festivals that help us enjoy the magic of the season. The 12 story prompt cards are each an offshoot of the story to help you on your way to telling more tales. Each tale offers approximately 1100 words so there is a lot of prompting to help you tell your stories! Please let me know if you are in the Southern Hemisphere - I will send you stories from your time of year! :)
An example of an English Tale and the 12 story-starter prompt cards for November - brand new stories come out each month and each year. You can receive the Tales digitally or in the mail. In the mail also comes with postcards and stickers!
